Baby step!
Oliver just took a first step. Just one, and he promptly fell down, but he did it! He was standing alone, put his arms out, then took a deliberate step forward!
N-O spells....
Natalie asked Jon for some more chips at lunch, he told her she could after she ate some more of the rest of her lunch. So she pulled what we can't stand - she turned right around and asked me.
I told her that if she asked me again, after Daddy already gave her an answer, she'd get a big, fat N-O. And I asked her if she knows what N-O spells.
Natalie - "Yeah. SHIT".
Laughter from me and Jon, and yet another lesson opportunity wasted.

Two sides to every story
Jon took Natalie and Oliver for a walk/bike ride before dinner. When they got back, the door slammed, and Natalie ran in, chipper as can be "Mommy, we had a GREAT TIME".
Two seconds later, the door slams and Jon storms in: "She's not going to the park tomorrow".
LOL

Grandma was here!
Grandma Carol flew in from Chicago to visit us this past weekend! We all had a great time, and the kids enjoyed having lots of quality time with their grandma. She flew in bright and early Saturday morning, so we had the whole day, which was nice - it sucks when you have to waste a whole day traveling. And on a side note, that last sentence made me realize where Natalie picked up the lovely phrase "This sucks". Oops. Anyway.... The only downside was Natalie was getting over the cold from hell, Oliver was in the middle of it, and I had just come down with a raging case of it. I feel really bad, because I think we should have done more considering how nice it is in January in AZ.
We just hung around the house on Saturday, so Grandma could play with the kids to their heart's content. My parents joined us for dinner, and so they could see Carol too.
Sunday we all went to church. Jon officially became part of our church's vestry, which is pretty cool! Natalie had Sunday School, and made her craft activity for Grandma - we'll be sending that along! Had another low-key afternoon, had dinner.
Monday, the weather was absolutely gorgeous, so we took advantage of the Zoo membership we just bought. Had a wonderful time at the Phoenix Zoo - it's a really nice zoo, and considered one of the top 5 in the country for kids. Lots to see and do, and I think we saw it all! Natalie even got to ride on a camel! Poor Oliver was sacked out afterwards - he fell asleep in his highchair during dinner. Even funnier - he had fallen asleep with a clump of shredded cheese on the top of his bib, and his chin slumped on it. When we got him up, his body heat had melted it. Good to know if our microwave or stove ever go out! :-P
So, overall, we had a nice visit and hope Grandma did too! I'm uploading pictures just before I go to bed. Shutterfly is crawling these days and hangs my PC when I upload a lot, so I'll set them to go just before I go to bed, and will try to get them linked tomorrow!

See ya Bush, good riddance
Thanks for nothing, and I do mean nothing. Thank God these last 8 years are over.

Big Boy!
Oliver's 9 month check-up was today! He's 30 inches long (97th percentile), 25.4 pounds (97th percentile) and his head is 19 inches around (off the charts).
His newest trick is standing alone! He's doing that more and more frequently, and on purpose (he's been standing alone without realizing it, such as when he's playing with the dishwasher). He also clucks like a little dolphin. We have whole converstations clucking back and forth - he's been doing that for quite a while now, but the conversation thing is new. He also knows how to make fish lips. Talented boy!
Fish lips aside, we have reason to believe he's part beaver. Exhibit A (that's his crib. We need to get rail padding):
That picture doesn't do the damage justice. As a baby, I teethed on my father's piano - I'd suck on the pedals, and bite the ivories (they had little teeth marks/chunks taken out of them), so I guess he comes by it honestly.

Weekend in Tucson
As mentioned earlier last week, last Thursday we headed to Tucson for a long weekend. Our very good friends from OH, Stacy, Paul and their children Christian and Kamryn were in Tucson visiting Stacy's family, so we seized the opportunity to see them! Christian was Natalie's best friend in OH - they are like two peas in a pod. We had such a wonderful time! And Tucson is gorgeous. I've only been there twice - once years ago on a day trip, and then last summer to have a girl's slumber party at my friend Alison's, so I hadn't had much of a chance before this weekend to really check it out.
We drove through Florence on the way there and back. Florence is probably best known for the state prison there. I read about a prison outlet online, which is a store stocked with items made by inmates, so when we passed it, I made Jon turn around. I wasn't sure what I was expecting, but it was a let-down. Natalie bought something though. lol. We met Stacy and her family for dinner that night, and the kids had a great time running around and playing with each other!
Friday, Jon golfed with Paul, Stacy's brother and stepfather. Stacy, her mom, the kids and I went to IHOP (cleared out our section in about 20 minutes, oops! The kids were a little excited), then to a local park. Later on, we all met up at Stacy's mom's and headed to her brother's for the evening. Her family is so incredibly warm and welcoming. They haven't seen Stacy, Paul and the kids in 8 months, but just took us right in! Their nieces loved the kids! There was no shortage of arms to hold Oliver. ;-)
We went to lunch with my friend Alison on Saturday, then took the kids back to the condo for a much-needed nap. After naps, we checked out a local toy store that was written up in a couple of local tourist guides. Mainly gag items, so not worth going to again, but Natalie enjoyed it. We had a quiet dinner back at our place, then got the kids to bed early.
We got to see Stacy, Paul and the kids Sunday morning before we left - they came by our place, then we went out for breakfast. Headed home after that.
All in all, it was a wonderful weekend! Although now we miss them more than ever.

Whoops! Happy New Year
A little late.
It's been pretty busy lately, so I haven't updated in a bit. Hope everyone had a happy and safe NYE. We stayed in and had fondue, followed by panna cotta with Mitz, Pops and some friends of ours. Took down all the decorations by the weekend. I had a sleep study on Sunday, won't get the results for several weeks (not apnea, and I don't snore, or at least not with any regularity). Natalie went back to school today and loves being back! She really missed her teachers and friends. We were able to have a Chuck E Cheese date with her friend Walker, and his mom and one of his sisters, and that was a lot of fun!
We're heading to Tucson this weekend. Some good friends of ours from OH will be visiting their family there, so we're going to go see them! We really miss them - Christian was one of Natalie's best little friends. While we're there, we're going to hook up with some other good friends of ours who live in the area. Should be a fun weekend!
